I have been coming to Meshuggah for about 14 years and have become very disappointed with it. On the plus side, I like the coffee and food. On the other hand, they frequently run out of common items for long periods. (How can a cafe run out of Earl Grey tea for months at a time?) The place is simply not clean-the conditions are often gag inducing (how it passes basic health inspections is beyond me). And there were really great baristas at one time-Eric, Jamie, Annie, etc. For the most part that isn‘t the case now. The current servers (especially a thin blond girl who is prone to emotional meltdowns in front of customers) are rude, slow and prone to making mistakes with orders (even if you do tip. Pretty sad that you can suck at your job and still expect a tip.) Apparently the owner Patrick no longer even lives in St. Louis. He never been particulary strong with restaurant running skills, so now that he is in San Francisco you can expect that things to only go downhill from here. The thing is if you want to go to a simple coffeehouse in the Loop and patronize local independents, you‘re stuck with the current Meshuggah‘s. I wish Kaldi‘s would move to the Loop.
